I think we’ve all experienced days when everything that could go wrong seems to go wrong

I haven’t had one of those for quite a while. That changed recently.
For lunch one day, Ben and I were planning on eating leftovers. We had one pork chop, which he was going to eat. I had quite a bit of shrimp jambalaya leftover. He would help me eat some of it.
I heated up the jambalaya in the microwave. The plastic container it was in was old and one end of the lid that seals the container was broken off.
When I took the hot dish out of the microwave, the lid slipped off. Before I knew what happened, the jambalaya was spilled all over the countertop and on the floor. My immediate reaction was to squeal.
Ben thought something was really wrong. By the time he got into the kitchen, I was scraping the jambalaya that was on the countertop into the plastic container. At least, I salvaged enough for my meal.
He offered to clean up the floor, but I said, “I made the mess. I’ll do it.”
I tore off some paper towels and scooped up the seasoned rice and shrimp in it. I repeated this process until it was mostly cleaned up.
“Let’s go ahead and eat. I’ll scrub after we’re done eating,” I said.
Right after lunch, I swept the bathroom, laundry room and kitchen floors. I had just mopped them two days before, but I thought it would be silly to just scrub the small area where the jambalaya had spilled.
Before I started mopping, I decided to put my dustpan and broom out on the step. I wanted to wash them off with the soapy water after I had finished cleaning the floors. They had gotten dirty while sweeping up the last of the spilled rice.
It didn’t take me long to finish scrubbing. Once I opened the screen door, I noticed the broom’s handle was in my road. I tried to move it and my mop, wet rag and water ended up on the sidewalk. I had to fill the bucket up with more soapy water to clean my dustpan and broom’s bristles.
That evening for supper I was making goulash. I had put tomato soup and tomato sauce in a casserole dish. I sprinkled in some salt, but the pepper shaker was empty.
I reached inside my Lazy Susan cabinet for a big can of black pepper. I opened the top where the small holes were and started to sprinkle some pepper on the sauce. The top of the lid wasn’t completely sealed, and it came open. I ended up with a big glob of pepper on top of the red sauce.
Fortunately, I was able to use a large spoon to scoop up the excess pepper. At least, I never ruined our supper.
Yes, that was one of those days when anything that could go wrong seemed to go wrong. I’m glad that I don’t have those kinds of days very often.
