Posted by admin on

As temperatures begin to drop outside, you may be dreaming of Halloween treats and holiday open houses. If visions of sugar plums (and decadent fudge) are dancing through your head, try your hand at these easy homemade candy recipes that can be created right in your own kitchen. Sweeter than the store-bought variety, DIY candy is fun to make, fun to eat, and fun to share!

You may have heard making homemade candy is challenging, but it’s not as difficult as you think! Here are some easy recipes for inspiration. Of course, feel free to improvise with basic ingredients from your kitchen pantry cabinet and flex your creative side. You did design your own kitchen, after all! Click here for some great candy making tips for beginners from The Spruce Eats, and bring your candy visions to life!

Sugar Plums

Contrary to popular belief, sugar plums are more than fruit sprinkled with the sweet stuff. These bite-sized candy confections have been around since the 17th century and were made famous when featured in Clement Moore’s 1823 poem, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and again in Tchaikovsky’s 1892 ballet, The Nutcracker Suite. Sugar plums are now an indelible part of the Christmas holiday, but if you want to know how a sugar plum actually tastes, try this easy recipe from Alton Brown of Food Network. Ingredients from your kitchen pantry cabinet include slivered almonds, honey, ground cardamom, dried plums, apricots and figs, a variety of toasted seeds, and course sugar, of course!

Toffee

Warm, buttery toffee is a holiday staple, and this unbelievably easy recipe from Damn Delicious takes you step by step through the process. Best of all, you don’t need a candy thermometer when making this toffee. Ingredients include sugar, butter, salt, and vanilla extract, plus semi-sweet chocolate chips, almonds and pecans. You will also need a saucepan, a baking sheet, and some parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Crunchy and caramelized to the perfect shade of golden brown, toffee looks impressive, but no one has to know how simple it really was to make!

Fudge

Nothing satisfies a sweet tooth like chocolate, and this foolproof fudge recipe from Brown Eyed Baker could not be any easier. If you can resist the temptation to eat it yourself, homemade fudge is perfect for holiday gifting — better yet, make an extra batch or two to keep at home! In just a few steps and with just a few ingredients, you’ll have rich, creamy fudge with chopped nuts from your kitchen pantry cabinet. Not a fan of nuts? Just leave them out, or add in add whatever sweet mix-ins your heart desires, whether it’s candy corn bits or crushed peppermint sticks. If you can design your own kitchen, you can also design your own fudge!

Lollipops

Want to try your hand at hard candy with an easy recipe? This Homemade Lollipops recipe from Just a Taste calls for three simple ingredients, including sugar and light corn syrup, plus seasonal sprinkles for decorating with a pop of holiday color (because these lollipops are clear)! Sweet enough to eat or pretty enough to share, you can even choose your own flavored extract, like cinnamon or vanilla. You will also need lollipop sticks — and a candy thermometer. Not sure how to use one? Click here for a video tutorial included with the recipe.
