A Nor’easter Is Coming and We Suggest You DIY Your Way Through It

Posted by admin on

Brace yourselves, New Englanders: Winter is about to flex its muscles in the form of a bomb cyclone, a storm that’s predicted to bring heavy snow and blizzard-like conditions to the Northeast this weekend. (Apparently this wintry wallop gets its name from bombogenesis, a process in which the storm’s central pressure plummets drastically within 24 hours, resulting in a hurricane-like intensity and powerful, damaging winds.) You’ll need to hunker down indoors until it passes, and Netflix can only be so distracting. Here are three easy DIY projects from our most popular stories this month that you can definitely accomplish during the involuntary downtime.

Upgrade Your Shower

Instead of staring at your ceiling out of boredom, set your sights on your shower walls. This plaster-esque makeover is inspired by Leanne Ford’s signature process, in which the designer uses SureCrete wall spray to add earthy texture to any surface. Start by priming your walls, then cover them with the mixture to transform your shower into a haven that you won’t want to leave—even after the storm passes.

Spruce Up Your Sofa

This weather may give you the urge to sulk on your sofa, but may we suggest an IKEA hack instead? To lift your spirits and liven up your living room, create your own “built-in” sectional by combining a pair of Söderhamn love seats with a handmade corner table and wood platform base. The final setup looks like a custom-made (read: much more expensive) piece.

Grab Some Tape and Get to Work on the Bathroom

If you want a seamless look in your bathroom without the hassle of actually doing additional tilework, black electric tape will do the trick. Artist Agi Raw applied the hardware-store supply to her medicine cabinet and vanity in a grid pattern to mimic the grout lines in her chic bathroom. It sounds basic, but trust us: The results are anything but.
