My Thoughts
A book that I learned a lot from and my son loved. He is definitely going through the "why" stage in his 4 year old life. I learned that we get a whole new layer of skin about once a month, and it is constantly flaking off. I mean, I knew that dust was mainly comprised of skin, but seriously? Once a month? Craziness. And that a woman in China has the longest hair in the world at 18 feet long, or that my brain makes memories while I sleep. Very fun and informative. I would like to say that I did not learn too much from this book, and it was mainly about teaching my child, but I would be lying. I actually had a lot of fun to read a few sections with my son each night. I felt like it built up my trivia knowledge lol.
The book has four sections in it; Amazing Me, How Things Work, Animals All Around, and Wonders of the World. In each of this sections there is roughly 15-25 questions, like "Why Does Water Turn to Ice?" "Why Do Some Bugs Bite?" "Why Do I Have Curly Hair?". In each of these sections they answer the question in an easy to understand why, and also includes other facts related to the question. Like in the case of "Why Do I Have a Belly Button?" it includes facts about other animals belly buttons. The book is bright and colorful with beautiful pictures. The words are also in large print so it is easy to follow and read. There is also a great section called "Parent Tips" at the back of the book that helps parents expand on some of the lessons in the book. They give some craft, experiments, and activity ideas to help your child further learn.
