Solid surface has become a popular and loved material within both the kitchen and bath space

Posted by admin on

With high durability, ease of maintenance, and antimicrobial properties, solid surface is an ideal surface for most activities. Most often seen as a kitchen countertop material, solid surface is also used for bathtubs and sinks, applications that benefit also from solid surfaces’ excellent heat retention.

Although solid surface is durable and inherently less prone to germs, it still requires maintenance for the best possible user experience. Read on for the essentials when it comes to caring for solid-surface.
Basic cleaning
Being a non-porous material, it is still recommended to wipe up spills as they occur. Solid surface is stain resistant, so more aggressive cleaners are in most cases, unnecessary. Instead, a damp microfiber cloth and any basic household kitchen cleaning spray will do the trick. If the surface has a buildup of residue, hot soapy water or countertop cleaner will suffice. Clean in a circular motion for maximum effect. Do avoid window cleaners though, as this will lead to a waxy build-up that will leave your surface looking dull and tired. This film buildup can be partially prevented by completely drying the counter after spills or cleaning.
Solid Surface Sinks

Solid surface sinks should be cleaned once to twice a week to remove all of the fats and oils that accumulate through normal kitchen use. This can be done using a detergent or hard surface cleaner. Follow this up by spraying the sink with a mixture of ¾ white vinegar and ¼ water. Let this coating sit for a few hours but no more than 16. After sitting, wipe the sink clean with a damp cloth.

Bathtub
Solid surface bathtubs should be rinsed with warm water after every use. If your tub becomes scratched, rinse the tub surface of all dust and dirt. Then, with 200 grit sandpaper, Use smooth, even strokes and make sure to sand the entire surface. As you work, you may need to wipe away dust with rags. Repeat this process using increasingly finer grit sandpaper pads, ending with the 800- 1000 grit sandpaper From here, wipe off the dust with a soft cloth and apply a gentle polishing compound and polish the sanded and surrounding areas.
